Informal presentation is provided by Stamy Paul, founder and president of Graffiti HeART, a non-profit arts education organization.  The focus of the organization is to provide opportunities to artists to do commissioned works of art, they also provide full emersion scholarships to high school students to attend CIA for two weeks over the summer.  70% of students they work with are local.  The new location was previously owned by OTC.  The building will be renovated on the interior, will have a new roof and HVAC.  The building will be used as gallery space and offer programing.  There is parking on the site as well as green yard space in the rear.

Committee Questions, Comments, Concerns

  • What is the connection of your group to the renowned artist?
  • Will the architectural detailing remain to provide a frame for the art?  The keystones, cornices, and base of the building should not be painted to provide a framework for the art.
  • Have you done any research on the history of the building?
  • Perhaps an approach to take should be as a stewardship role in locating your organization in this building, or perhaps restore the building to its original facade and incorporate the artistic installations on the interior or on a side wall.
  • There are architectural details that should be respected and used.
  • Will there be any additional Graffiti heART branding?
  • Any thought to opening up the facade with switching the block windows or adding more transparent glass.
  • Will the building be primed?
  • Stone elements should be brought back; paint the arch in one color.
  • Where will folks park?  Per SP: Has an arrangment with OTC to use their existing parking spaces.
  • When will the installation be done?
  • Consider painting the architectural elements after the artist is done instead of masking to make sure the elements are not lost.
  • Consider all of the preparation needs of the various materials
