Committee Concerns/Questions

  • Can you provide pole lighting instead of the pack lights? Or perhaps wall sconces?
  • What exactly is the setback? 30' vs 50'.
  • Can you change the color of the brick?
  • What will the other elevations be?
  • Can we see some quantities on the retension basins?
  • Can you mirror some of the retension basin design from the Collinwood Rec Center?  Committee would suggest going down in elevation instead of mounding.  Keep the urban context in mind when considering the plantings for the retension basin.

Cm Polensek and NES in attendance.  Councilman concerned with truck traffic going through the arch, the blank elevations facing the residences, where trash and enclosure will be

Motion to table will the recommendation that they return with full elevations, materials, the building closer to the arch, an entrance from Lakeshore Blvd, an articulated pedestrian walkway, change in the color of the brick, more windows/features on the blank elevations, and a channel/raceway sign instead of the internally illuminated cabinet sign.  Return with another conceptual proposal.  Motion to table approved by all members present.

Committee Comments/Concerns

  • Is there a dedicated crosswalk from Lakeshore Blvd?
  • Have there been any input from the residents?
  • How are the trucks accessing the site?  From E. 159th or Lakeshore Blvd?  Trucks can maneuver both access points
  • Can we green buffer/island areas in the parking lot?
  • North and east elevations are somewhat inconsistent.  Can you discuss the banding and the parapet? The banding would be added to all elevations.

Cm Polensek and NES was in attendance at today’s meeting.  Per Cm Polensek, the currently presented site with access from E. 159th and Lakeshore Blvd makes the most sense for pedestrians and residents.  The current setback allows people to see the arch as they are traveling west on Lakeshore Blvd.

NES would like the equipment to screen the mechanicals on the roof and some clarity on the color of the awning in the rendering vs the elevations.

Motion to approve as final design with condition that the islands be greened, the awnings be aligned with the placement of the joints, and the awnings to match the renderings.  Motion passed 5-1 (P. Brown)
