CLIFTON –WEST BOULEVARD HISTORIC DISTRICT – 10001 CLIFTON BOULEVARD Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the demolition of the house.   The Landmarks Commission had approved plans for the construction of a new house on the southwest corner of Clifton and West Boulevard.   The Commission had tabled any action on the demolition of the existing house until Commission staff had talked to Councilwoman Brady and Councilman Westbrook.   Staff has since talked to both council members.   The house is located in Councilwoman Brady's ward.   She is fully aware and supportive of the proposal for new construction and the demolition of this house.   Councilman Westbrook deferred to Councilwoman Brady on this issue.

WITNESS DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Clifton – West Boulevard Design Review Committee recommended approval of the demolition, as proposed.

BROADWAY HISTORIC DISTRICT – OUR LADY OF LOURDES CONVENT – EAST 53 RD STREET Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the demolition of the convent of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The building, constructed in 1926, is a contributing structure in the Broadway National Register Historic District.   The Development Corporation has been working with the church on the adaptive reuse of the structure.   Sandvick Architects was hired through City Council ward allocation to investigate the potential for reuse of the structure.   They plan to demolish the structure and use the property to expand an adjoining parking lot.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Broadway Design Review Committee will meet on Tuesday regarding this project.

BROADWAY HISTORIC DISTRICT – 3283 EAST 55 TH STREET Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the renovation of the house.  

LITTLE ITALY HISTORIC DISTRICT – 1958-60 EAST 120 TH STREET Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of vinyl siding on the house.   The house has the original wood siding, and the owner has been referred to the Cleveland Restoration Society program.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Little Italy Design Review Committee recommended against allowing the house to be vinyl sided.

WAREHOUSE HISTORIC DISTRICT – DISTRICT PARK CONDOMINIUMS – WEST 9 TH STREET The Landmarks Commission approved plans for the construction of the condominium project at its March 11, 2004 Landmarks Commission meeting.   The developer is now seeking approval of revised plans for the complex.   Plan revisions will include the addition of an additional story, the reduction of stone on the rear and side elevations on the lower and upper stories.   The applicant will also present a medium bronze metal canopy above the entrance, and streetscape plans.   The applicant has revised the brick color from Oxford Ironspot to Hartford Red.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Warehouse District Design Review Committee recommended approval of the revised plans for the District Park Condominiums.

LITTLE ITALY HISTORIC DISTRICT – 2029 FAIRVIEW AVENUE Application for a Certificate of appropriateness for the demolition of the house.   Built in the 1890's the house contributes to the character of the Little Italy Historic District.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Little Italy Design Review Committee recommended approval of the demolition of the house.

ACTION

LITTLE ITALY HISTORIC DISTRICT –2018 MURRAY HILL ROAD   Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the demolition of the house for a parking lot.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION   The Little Italy Design Review Committee recommended disapproval of the demolition of the house.

MARKET SQUARE HISTORIC DISTRICT – WEST SIDE MARKET PARKING LOT – WEST 25 TH AND LORAIN   Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the construction of a walled dumpster enclosure.   The proposed wall will be screened with landscaping.   The project will also include two benches and bicycle racks.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Ohio City Design Review Committee recommended approval of the dumpster enclosure, with the condition that the area between the trash compactor and the screening wall is secured.

MALL HISTORIC DISTRICT – MALL B – Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of a public art. The proposed temporary art exhibition

PLAYHOUSE SQUARE HISTORIC DISTRICT – EUCLID AND EAST 14 TH STREET Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of a public art display in the intersection of East 14 th and Euclid.

FRANKLIN CIRCLE HISTORIC DISTRICT – BOUNCE NIGHTCLUB – 2814 DETROIT AVENUE    Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of rolling glass windows in existing openings on the Detroit Avenue elevation of the building.   Plans also called for the installation of a neon sign above the entrance.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Ohio City Design Review Committee recommended approval of the installation of the rolling windows, with the applicant to return to staff with the proposed sign.   The Committee asked for a more contemporary font for the proposed sign.

MARKET SQUARE HISTORIC DISTRICT – THE GARAGE BAR – 1859 WEST 25 TH STREET Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of three new door openings, and the installation of signs.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Ohio City Design Review Committee recommended approval of the signs, with the exception of the sign on the Bridge Avenue elevation.   The Committee asked that the arrow on that sign should be thinner and more integrated into the sign design.   They also approved the sign on the West 25 th Street elevation with the condition that it was gold.   The Committee also thought that the eastern door on the north elevation should be wider and the side light should be eliminated.

LORAIN AVENUE HISTORIC DISTRICT – SWEENEY BUILDING – 1990 FULTON ROAD Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the renovation of this commercial building.   The aluminum siding had been removed from the building.   Existing siding will be restored and hardiboard will be used to supplement missing siding.   New wood windows will be installed as part of the project.   The applicant plans to use the following Ralph Lauren paint colors on the building, Edgartown Blue TH68 for the body, Balmoral Red TH44 for the trim, and Slate SU28 for window sashes.
