DESCRIPTION |
A charismatic structure executed in the renaissance eclectic style, this former firehouse has a solid parapet with a gable plaque, a full cornice and patterned brickwork, double round-arched doors overlooking an iron railed balcony supported on brackets, and an unusual side porte-cochere with stone trim.
A typical fire station in size and organization, this building shows the care and attention to detail that was a part of the architectural revivalism of the 1920s. It was a time when there was room for non-utilitarian considerations in public buildings.
The structure stands back from Lorain Avenue , shaded by trees on its east side. When the building was erected this area was still West Park before it was annexed to the City of Cleveland in 1923. |
