CASE

BROOKLYN CENTRE HISTORIC DISTRICT – ART HOUSE – 3119 DENISON AVENUE Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of two signs for the Art House, that will include one wall 5' x 5' sign on the north façade of the Quonset hut, and a 8' tall x 3 ½' wide monument sign in the front yard of the building.

WITNESS Cheryl Hoffman (Executive Director – Art House), Jim Briola (North Coast Signs)

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Brooklyn Centre Design Review Committee recommended approval of the signs, as submitted.


CASE

BROOKLYN CENTRE HISTORIC DISTRICT – YMCA – 3881 PEARL ROAD   Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of new vinyl windows on the fourth floor on the north elevation of the building.

WITNESS Sven Kramer (Stanek Windows)

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Brooklyn Centre Design Review Committee recommended approval of the installation of new beige vinyl windows on the fourth floor, with the condition that the rest of the windows are painted to match the new windows.


CASE

BROADWAY HISTORIC DISTRICT – 5711 BROADWAY Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the demolition of a commercial building.   The building was determined to be non-contributing when the district was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.   The owner plans to demolish the building, remove the foundation, and plant grass, with a system bollards and chains to the rear side of the property.

WITNESS

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Broadway Design Review Committee will meet Tuesday – May 25, 2004.


CASE

WAREHOUSE HISTORIC DISTRICT – PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS – WEST LAKESIDE AVENUE AND WEST 6 TH STREET Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the construction of a surface parking lot for the county.   The proposed parking lot will include the site of the School Bells Building.   The Landmarks Commission had approved with demolition of the School Bells building with the condition that the site was not used as surface parking.

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Warehouse District Design Review Committee recommended approval of the construction of the surface parking lot, as presented.


CASE

SHAKER SQUARE HISTORIC DISTRICT – 2920 VAN AKEN BOULEVARD Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of a sign to identify the Van Aken Court Apartments.   The sign will have an aluminum cabinet, painted green; green aluminum poles cover, with flat white vinyl faces and green letters.   It will be 3' tall by 4' wide, sitting on a one - foot high base.

WITNESS Bob Casto (Boyer Signs)

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Shaker Square Design Review Committee recommended approval of the sign, with the condition that there was no internal illumination.


CASE

SHAKER SQUARE HISTORIC DISTRICT – 2720 VAN AKEN BOULEVARD Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of two 2 foot tall by 17' – 4 7/8“wide   “Aaron's” signs, and eight inch tall pin mounted letters for “Furniture, Electronics, Computers, and Appliances”.  

WITNESS Bob Casto (Boyer Signs)

DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION The Shaker Square Design Review Committee recommended approval of the two “Aaron's” signs, and disapproval of the eight inch pin mounted letters.
